Today in miSky! 🌽🌕🌽September’s Corn mo Today in miSky!

🌽🌕🌽September’s Corn moon isn’t one we hear about too often!
September and October can both host the Harvest Moon- the full moon that falls the closest to the Autumn Equinox; and while that is often in September, this year it is celebrated on October 6. This month’s moon-nickname comes from the huge harvest of corn but there are Old English names that get a little more diverse, such as: the Song Moon, Barley Moon or the Wine Moon.

Tonight’s Full Moon is also a Full Lunar Eclipse as well—but we won’t be seeing it in Schenectady, or across America at all. Happy eclipse-gazing for those in Europe, Africa, Asia and more!

This Week in miSky: 🌓 First Quarter Moon on 8/ This Week in miSky:

🌓 First Quarter Moon on 8/31!
🪐 Saturn is coming back into sight! With the rising Fall constellations—particularly the Great Square of Pegasus—comes one of the big favorites among the planets. The ringed gas-giant looks a lot like a star- it’s so far away it isn’t one of the brightest planets!

But we can find Saturn almost directly beneath the left-most stars of the Great Square—it will be there through the season this year! Always remember to look for a steady light when you’re looking for a planet—the stars are the ones that twinkle, our fellow members of the Solar System show us a still, steady light to let us set them apart.
