Happy Harvest Moon!🎃 Traditionally the f Happy Harvest Moon!🎃

Traditionally the full moon that comes closest to the Autumnal Equinox is called the Harvest moon. It's usually in September but this is one of the special years with an October Harvest moon. Because it is so near to the equinox, during the Harvest moon (and the days immediately before or after) the moon rises at nearly to the same time and looks pretty, bright and full, giving anyone working outside extra time for a harvest. What’s more, this year's supermoon makes the Harvest moon look even bigger and brighter! This is the second “super harvest” moon in a row—2024 gave us a bright harvest too.

If the Harvest moon falls in September, October’s moon is called the Hunter moon. Many other people remember the harvest time and changing seasons in their own October moon names: Native American peoples with the Drying Rice Moon, the Falling Leaves Moon and the Celts with the Seed Fall Moon just to name a few!
Here's to good harvests, and a thankful Autumn to come.

This Week in miSky:

🌕 Full Moon on 10/06/25

🪐 Saturn gives us a lot to talk about, and a whopping 274 of those topics are its moons! It was just this year, March 2025, that 128 of those moons were made official- and that total is a number that is tough to imagine, especially with our single lonely moon! These objects range from as large as planets to moonlets 10’s of meters across, but all have one thing in common—a confirmed orbit around Saturn.

Even though the largest of these moons, Ganymede, is probably larger than Mercury; Saturn is so big in comparison that the moons don't have the same effects there that our Moon does on Earth.

Look for Saturn tonight in the evening sky!
