Spring has officially sprung! At 10:46 AM yester Spring has officially sprung!

At 10:46 AM yesterday, March 20 from Schenectady the Sun has crossed the Celestial Equator and Earth’s tilt is perpendicular to the Sun’s rays coming in. What does this mean? Basically, that the centerpoint of the Sun above us crosses the horizon to divide our day and night into 12 hr periods.

Fun fact: we’ve already had our day of truly equal light and dark, back on March 17 we had our “equilux”. This is different because it starts sunrise when the first edge of the Sun’s disk rises and marks sunset as the vanishing of the the last edge of the Sun’s disk. This makes the equilux a more accurate measure of true light and dark!
