Everyone starts somewhere, even a museum. This cer Everyone starts somewhere, even a museum. This ceramic pitcher designed to resemble an ear of corn is miSci 34.1, the very first object in miSci's collection. Over the following 89 years the collection has grown to preserve millions of historic photographs, films, objects, and documents that trace the history of science and innovation- but the very first object was this one right here. The pitcher was made around 1880 and was gifted to the Museum by Mrs. Henry Dutcher.

It's a miSky alert! 🌕The Harvest Moon (tonight It's a miSky alert!

🌕The Harvest Moon (tonight's full Moon) is the closest full Moon to the Autumnal Equinox—often September but occasionally in October.

It is so named because during this time in the Northern Hemisphere, the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day and this extra moonlight from the full moon was welcome and useful—it gave farmers extra harvest time! 🌾

It’s hard to understate how different our lives It’s hard to understate how different our lives would be without refrigerators. This photograph was taken in 1929 and shows off a very early Monitor Top refrigerator; a surviving example is in miSci’s collections. The move away from ice boxes to refrigerators not only allowed families to store more food, it allowed people to store food much more safely. So, when you sit down for a big meal, thank a fridge!

Three new exhibits open this weekend at miSci- and on display will be some amazing artifacts from the history of food technology. Come to miSci this weekend and see Ground to Gourmet, A Taste of Science, and Space to Spoon!
