The moon is bringing us in to the new year with a The moon is bringing us in to the new year with a celebration of light! It might be cold, but the supermoon we will be seeing on the night of January 3 will be worth searching for some clear sky. Supermoons occur when the Full Moon comes while the Moon is at its closest to Earth in orbit—this gives us an extra bright and extra large moon to see. 🌕

The January moon has long been nicknamed the “Wolf Moon”, a nickname coming from Native American tribes across the United States, as a reminder of the active wolves they notice this time of year.
This year’s Wolf Moon comes along with an extra show—the shooting star activity from the Quadrantids meteor shower peaks with the Full moon this year.

The very brightest shooting stars are the only ones we’ll be able to see with the bright moon, but those we can see will be spectacular! Look into the northeastern sky around midnight.✨
