Earth's rotation has been moving faster than usual Earth's rotation has been moving faster than usual this summer, making our days shorter than 24 hours! But don't worry; the fluctuation of Earth's rotation speed is not a new thing.

While the Earth naturally spins faster during the summertime, factors such as the moon's gravitational pull and movement of the Earth's liquid core, which is affected by seasonal changes of the atmosphere, can cause our planet to move quicker.

The shortest day this year was July 10th, by 1.36 milliseconds. Today will also be shorter by 1.34 milliseconds as well as August 5th by 1.25 milliseconds!
