It's time for miSci's innovator of the week! This

It's time for miSci's innovator of the week! This week we're highlighting René Alphonse Higonnet, who brought printing into the electronic age!

Before Higonnet's work printing a newspaper or magazine meant setting each letter into place- using either blocks of metal or molten metal to create a plate. He and his collaborator Louis Moyroud designed a machine that could set the type using a flashbulb that put letters directly into the finished plate. Their phototypesetting process not only made making prints faster- it allowed computers to be used to set type, and for graphic designers to use more creative fonts and graphics!

For miSci's 90th anniversary we are highlighting an innovator every week and inviting people to spread their stories!
