After a big meal, you may feel like you could make After a big meal, you may feel like you could make room for a sweet treat. This is because our brain cells that tell us we're full could also be making us crave sugar!

Neuroscientist Marielle Minère studied how mice would react to a sugar offering after being full from their regular food. The POMC, a bundle of neurons inside of the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls hunger) lit up once the mice were shown the sugar after their meal. Minère then studied human brain tissue. Mice and humans have different brains, but this part of the brain is very similar!

Minère calls this a "sugar-craving circuit", and believes that it overrides the "fullness circuit", especially because sugar consumption releases dopamine. We are happy to be eating it! 🍰

🌓First quarter 6/2 ✨The Spring triangle brin 🌓First quarter 6/2

✨The Spring triangle brings attention to bright star Arcturus, but once you've "arced to Arcturus" from the Big Dipper, don’t forget to check out the rest of the constellation that the star sits inside of: Boötes!

There are many versions of Boötes in mythology where he is the Herdsman, the Plowman or the first winemaker. Ahead of him are his dogs in Canes Venetici.

Unseen in Boötes is an interesting area of space called the Boötes void--a rough sphere of almost 330 million lightyears with only 60 galaxies inside instead of the 2000 or so we might expect. These empty regions of space help us picture the structure of the universe!
