Air conditioning is probably older than you think! Air conditioning is probably older than you think! We found this photograph in our Museum archives- this is none other than Walt Disney in 1939 inspecting a brand-new air conditioning system for his famous animation studios in California. The new building (and air conditioning system) were financed by their first major movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

Air conditioning took off in the mid-1900s, but the technology had been cooking for several decades. Electrification allowed air conditioning to really take off, and today well over a billion air conditioners are used worldwide!
