Smithsonian Museum Day Live!

Little Wonders of Science: Magnet Max

Introduce children ages 3 to 5 to science with Magnet Max by Monica Lozano Hughes followed by some hands-on activities.

Little Wonders of Science inspires curiosity through stories, play, and special hands-on activities specifically created for children ages 3-5. Held on the third Friday and Saturday morning of every month, the Little Wonders of Science program introduces new STEM topics monthly.

Come early for a special 10 am showing in miSci's planetarium of "One World, One Sky" (additional $5/ person), and leave with the materials to continue the study of science at home.

miSci After Dark: Bubbles & Brews

Join us for miSci’s After Dark event “Bubbles & Brews” - a social event for adults 21+ featuring full museum access, alcoholic beverages, board games, planetarium show, and exciting bubble science demonstrations by miSci educators!

Come enjoy samples (and purchase to-go containers) of the finest craft brews from some of the best local brewers, including: Common Roots Brewing Company, Mad Jack Brewing Company, Rare Form Brewing Company, Shmaltz Brewing Company, Wolf Hollow Brewing Company and spirits from Albany Distilling Company and kombucha, kefir and other bubbly elixirs from Yesfolk Tonics.

Night Sky Adventure: Our Friend the Moon (Presented by the Dudley Observatory)

Even though humans haven’t set foot on the moon in over 40 years, NASA and other space agencies have been actively studying the moon using satellites and robotic landers. Come learn about some of the latest discoveries, then join the Dudley Observatory at miSci on October 28th to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night!

Night Sky Adventures are astronomy fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory, in conjunction with volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers group, present astronomy lessons, planetarium shows and night sky viewing (weather depending). Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. One or more telescopes will be provided for public use.

Octagon Barn Star Party and Lecture: Globular Clusters: Great Balls of Fire (presented by the Dudley Observatory)

Presented by the Dudley Observatory

Join the Dudley Observatory and the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers for an astronomy lesson and dark sky observing at the Octagon Barn in Delanson, NY! Programs include a 1 hour talk by local astronomy enthusiasts, followed by night sky observing if the weather is clear. Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. Telescopes will also be set up for public use. Great for older children and adults!

This month, Ron Barnell (AAAA/HESO) will present on “Globular Clusters: Great Balls of Fire."

Volunteer Open House

Interested in giving back to your community? Become a volunteer at the Museum! Get started by attending an open house. Volunteers are needed to assist with exhibits, such as the Butterfly House, assist in the archives, assist with maintenance, run Planetarium shows, and more. Open houses are held the first Monday of each month at 4:30 pm. New volunteers are welcome to stay for the all-staff at 5:15.
